As I maintain my weight for the HOLLISTON shoot (no small feat, believe me) I've given into "cheat days" where one can enjoy whatever they want while the other 6 days are more strict a dietary plan. Tonight, enjoy my "one serving" (2 cups) of organic popcorn with Olive Oil from Trader Joe's. How decadent! But totally worth the sacrifice, not worrying about "Moobs" (man-boobs), a protruding gut or my "Lucas" (double, triple or non-existant chin waddle) as much to focus on more important things, like saying my goddamned lines right!!
Bri took Rem and I for lunch to a new, wonderful discovery, Sunny Blue. Sounds like a porn star, but it's actually a small, quaint little nook that offers "Omusubi" which is somewhat like a Sushi Street taco, with seaweed, balled-up rice and a delicious filling inside the ball. I couldn't help but have 2 (Spicy Tuna & Curry Chicken) and have now found a great new place to nosh.

Hungry again already...if you're in the Santa Monica area, check it out!
Finished out my day early so I could take the family up to the Santa Barbara Bowl to see 311, a first time at that venue for us. Amazing night, GREAT set under the moonlight with great family and friends...and who doesn't love a 5-person drum solo?

Another example why this band has endured and thrived for 20+ years. Here's to 20 more!

Thanks again to 311 for the great night! Now, to run lines before tomorrow...thank god for the long ride home.
Took the family to check out The Actor's Gang put on Shakespeare's classic THE TEMPEST as told with Star Wars characters. Pretty neat, if shrewd, idea. Here's the boys, geeking out at "Uncle Bear's" discussing the finer points of Joe Johnston's THE ROCKETEER if it's "Plissken Approved". Some props on the "Mass Cable Vision" set, a couple of old super 8mm cameras. Why the hell would we have these on set, what, to lament the good ole' days?

...as I shoot them with my digital camera on my phone while we wait for the RED cameras to reboot? Both Eastman AND Kodak are spinning at 24fps in their graves...
First day on the set of HOLLISTON Season 2!

Unfortunately most of my snaps are "spoilery" so I had to resort to this compelling shot of "Bobby P" preparing the already infamous Guac-Gun we created for CHILLERAMA for a very particular effect we're trying to achieve...let's just say it involves lots of sparkles and smoke. If you're a fan of the show, you'll get it. But Rob has a laser sight on the gun for optimal gun-age, so this should work out just fine.

GREAT to be back in the thick of it!

Joe

PS: I'll try to post as many shots from the show's production as I can but at the request of FEARnet, we dont' want to give away ALL the fun surprises. Not that anyone reads this anyway, so we'll see.
On-set in front of Stage 6 at RED studios, where we shot Season 1 last year. Being back again is such a surreal thrill, so many wonderful and crazy memories, eagerly awaiting a ton of new ones by the time we wrap this season, I'm sure. Never thought we'd be back, but here we are as art dept is banging away and everyone is prepping for Day 1 tomorrow. So excited to RAWK!

As we get closer to production, it was finally time to cut my long-ass hair, which I saved from any shearing since LAST season. So, if you saw any recent shots of me, would know I'm cutting a fair amount of foliage from my head, a mane I was growing fond of but knew it was time to hit the barber floor.

Des, our makeup guru on HOLLISTON and many other projects, recommended a great hairstylist, Diane, who was down the street from the office, so on Friday I nervously drove over. What if she cut too much off? What if it looks bad? What if they have to recast me or cancel the show FELICITY-style?!?! ...and as someone who usually walks out of a haircut appointment counting the seconds after hearing "Well, it'll grow in after 2 weeks and look better", I couldn't be happier with the cut. So much so that I keep walking around with this bag of hair you see before you, proudly displaying it to anyone I can. "See this? This was on my head!". The usual response was an indifferent "...wow, good for you." but being that I've never really had long hair, this was a milestone.

So...soak it in folks, the mane is no more. But if anyone needs a bag 'o hair, inquire within!

Time to get Season 2 a rockin!
Barratt left his RED camera on-set and I couldn't help but just gaze upon it, especially though a wide angle lens I found lying around (I have a serious lens fetish, help me). ...that sounded a lot more disgusting than I intended. At the Ocean Park rec center on a hot day, taking advantage of the open-air water sports. Again, kiiiinda salacious...
Last week of inserts and additional shooting on HATCHET 3. Not directly involved with this shoot (excuse? "You already died in the last one". Pfftt!!!), but our rehearsal space at ArieScope suddenly became sets for the forthcoming Splatterfest. Ah, indie FIlmmaking. Just loved seeing signs like this all around since they are shooting the high-intensity scenes in an otherwise sleepy residential area. Break many legs guys...and don't forget to read the signs!!!
A week from today and HOLLISTON will be officially in production on Season 2. Holy crap!

Here's our Supervising Producer/Episode Director Sean "MUNNNNG" Becker making things happen on his phone while I give him a glance at the goods. That's just how close we all are here in HOLLISTON. Beanbag Rides for everyone!
Sorry, Toots, but I've seen enough killer car movies (and read enough King) to know to stay FAR away from this cherry of a classic car. This shit just SCREAMS "2nd act death". I just pray I'm not "fat kid huffing down alleyway about to be smeared against asphalt".
Why do I feel like I just walked into the middle of something, like I was Andy in TOY STORY? Something sneaky is going on here...or someone just got interrupted during playtime and was then confused as to what media to move onto, a video with WALLACE & GROMIT? Or a bedtime book? One might never know...personally? I think our ole' Sheriff friend was trying to skip town.
Got my eye on you, Woody.
Our killer Makeup artist Desiree Falcon (Hire her, seriously!) set up the cast of HOLLISTON with free make up evaluations for the new season by the company Dermalogica, who sent some specialists to the office one morning. So strange to be told straight up how your skin is; thankfully, I passed my "test" with mostly flying colors thanks to constant hydration and a weekly face-scrub. Did I just admit that in public?

But each cast member got a chance to sit in these old 50's salon chairs, complete with cigarette butt compartments on the arm-rests! Old school, kiid. I WILL NOT admit that I liked it, but isn't that enough of a hint? Plus...free gift bags?!! Squee!! Now I just have to actually USE them...

We're gonna look good this season, thanks to the fine folks at Dermalogica! Thanks for taking the time to observe our pores!
