Shot of the Day 12.243(11)
Finished out my day early so I could take the family up to the Santa Barbara Bowl to see 311, a first time at that venue for us. Amazing night, GREAT set under the moonlight with great family and friends...and who doesn't love a 5-person drum solo?
Another example why this band has endured and thrived for 20+ years. Here's to 20 more!
Thanks again to 311 for the great night! Now, to run lines before tomorrow...thank god for the long ride home.

Shot of the Day 12.240: May Thy Force Be with Thee
Shot with iPhone & Camera +, click to enlarge.
Took the family to check out The Actor's Gang put on Shakespeare's classic THE TEMPEST as told with Star Wars characters. Pretty neat, if shrewd, idea. Hey, whatever gets the kids to pay attention to the classics, right? Rem was pretty entranced and I got to shake Tim Robbins' hand afterwards. Good day.

Shot of the Day 12.239: The Dorkateers
Shot with iPhone & CamraBag, click to enlarge.
Here's the boys, geeking out at "Uncle Bear's" discussing the finer points of Joe Johnston's THE ROCKETEER if it's "Plissken Approved". Upon viewing later that evening, I think Rem has a few years before he can enjoy this underrated Disney adventure (now on Blu!). But at least he's primed for it.

Shot of the Day 12.238: Foy & Priscilla (Week 1 Wrapped!)
Here's Dave Foy with one of our newest friends, Priscilla. One day the story of how they met will be revealed...for now, just enjoy the chemistry.
PS: Last day with Lance Rocket on-set. Dee and his family were so supportive and helpful to our quest. Working with him again was such a treat, something my Dad would have really appreciated as well. Here's the Three Amigos one more time....
Week 1, COMPLETE.

Shot of the Day 12.236: Fading away FIlm
Some props on the "Mass Cable Vision" set, a couple of old super 8mm cameras. Why the hell would we have these on set, what, to lament the good ole' days?
...as I shoot them with my digital camera on my phone while we wait for the RED cameras to reboot? Both Eastman AND Kodak are spinning at 24fps in their graves...

Shot of the Day 12.235: Guackle Gun
First day on the set of HOLLISTON Season 2!
Unfortunately most of my snaps are "spoilery" so I had to resort to this compelling shot of "Bobby P" preparing the already infamous Guac-Gun we created for CHILLERAMA for a very particular effect we're trying to achieve...let's just say it involves lots of sparkles and smoke. If you're a fan of the show, you'll get it. But Rob has a laser sight on the gun for optimal gun-age, so this should work out just fine.
GREAT to be back in the thick of it!
PS: I'll try to post as many shots from the show's production as I can but at the request of FEARnet, we dont' want to give away ALL the fun surprises. Not that anyone reads this anyway, so we'll see.

Shot of the Day 12.234: Open For Business
On-set in front of Stage 6 at RED studios, where we shot Season 1 last year. Being back again is such a surreal thrill, so many wonderful and crazy memories, eagerly awaiting a ton of new ones by the time we wrap this season, I'm sure. Never thought we'd be back, but here we are as art dept is banging away and everyone is prepping for Day 1 tomorrow. So excited to RAWK!
As Landis Says: "Onwards and Upwards with the Arts!"
See you on Stage 6!

Shot of the Day 12.233: Bag O' Hair
As we get closer to production, it was finally time to cut my long-ass hair, which I saved from any shearing since LAST season. So, if you saw any recent shots of me, would know I'm cutting a fair amount of foliage from my head, a mane I was growing fond of but knew it was time to hit the barber floor.
Des, our makeup guru on HOLLISTON and many other projects, recommended a great hairstylist, Diane, who was down the street from the office, so on Friday I nervously drove over. What if she cut too much off? What if it looks bad? What if they have to recast me or cancel the show FELICITY-style?!?! ...and as someone who usually walks out of a haircut appointment counting the seconds after hearing "Well, it'll grow in after 2 weeks and look better", I couldn't be happier with the cut. So much so that I keep walking around with this bag of hair you see before you, proudly displaying it to anyone I can. "See this? This was on my head!". The usual response was an indifferent "...wow, good for you." but being that I've never really had long hair, this was a milestone.
So...soak it in folks, the mane is no more. But if anyone needs a bag 'o hair, inquire within!
Time to get Season 2 a rockin!

Shot of the Day 12.231: Through a Red Widely
HATCHET 3 pickups still overpowering the office but hearing its going really well. Barratt left his RED camera on-set and I couldn't help but just gaze upon it, especially though a wide angle lens I found lying around (I have a serious lens fetish, help me). What a great piece of machinery. Never thought I'd say that about digital cinema, but every project I shoot with a RED I warm to it more and more.
Wave of da future, kids...till Film becomes cool again, that is.

Shot of the Day 12.229: Please Don't Slash the Neighbors
Last week of inserts and additional shooting on HATCHET 3. Not directly involved with this shoot (excuse? "You already died in the last one". Pfftt!!!), but our rehearsal space at ArieScope suddenly became sets for the forthcoming Splatterfest. Ah, indie FIlmmaking. Just loved seeing signs like this all around since they are shooting the high-intensity scenes in an otherwise sleepy residential area. Break many legs guys...and don't forget to read the signs!!!

Shot of the Day 12.228: Tea-Beckering
A week from today and HOLLISTON will be officially in production on Season 2. Holy crap!
Here's our Supervising Producer/Episode Director Sean "MUNNNNG" Becker making things happen on his phone while I give him a glance at the goods. That's just how close we all are here in HOLLISTON. Beanbag Rides for everyone!

Shot of the Say 12.227: Dark Classic
Sorry, Toots, but I've seen enough killer car movies (and read enough King) to know to stay FAR away from this cherry of a classic car. This shit just SCREAMS "2nd act death". I just pray I'm not "fat kid huffing down alleyway about to be smeared against asphalt".

Shot of the Day 12.224: Hmmmm...
Why do I feel like I just walked into the middle of something, like I was Andy in TOY STORY? Something sneaky is going on here...or someone just got interrupted during playtime and was then confused as to what media to move onto, a video with WALLACE & GROMIT? Or a bedtime book? One might never know...personally? I think our ole' Sheriff friend was trying to skip town.
Got my eye on you, Woody.

Shot of the Day 12.223: Facial Findings
Our killer Makeup artist Desiree Falcon (Hire her, seriously!) set up the cast of HOLLISTON with free make up evaluations for the new season by the company Dermalogica, who sent some specialists to the office one morning. So strange to be told straight up how your skin is; thankfully, I passed my "test" with mostly flying colors thanks to constant hydration and a weekly face-scrub. Did I just admit that in public?
But each cast member got a chance to sit in these old 50's salon chairs, complete with cigarette butt compartments on the arm-rests! Old school, kiid. I WILL NOT admit that I liked it, but isn't that enough of a hint? Plus...free gift bags?!! Squee!! Now I just have to actually USE them...
We're gonna look good this season, thanks to the fine folks at Dermalogica! Thanks for taking the time to observe our pores!

Shot of the Day 12.222: Adieu, Old frenemy
We've had this 2001 WV Golf for 12 days shy of 10 years, it's been that long since Bri and I moved to Los Angeles. Now, this hunk of crap has been sold off to someone who is going to likely use it for spare parts (I would, in the condition it was left). Ironic that my Dad was a total gearhead, yet, I could give two shits about shifters and Big Blocks. Just as long as the sucker drives, I'm fine.
I will say, to it's credit, the Golf ran for 9 solid years through thick, thin and otherwise and I put a HELL of a lot of miles on it. Was never a perfect car, hell it was barely even "acceptable", but it got me from point A to point B, so I can't fault it for that. On it's last legs however, it was a sheer pain in the ass, so it's good to see it go.
Farewell, old friend. You're someone else's problem now. We had some times together...mostly on the 405.

Shot of the Day 12.220: Mobile Motel 6
A guy lives in this car, which is parked near the park we walk to every day. He parks there, then works out for at least 10 hours, conditioning his body for the eventual Zombie Apocalypse.
Take that in and put stock in that notion...living in a car. Your problems are a lot less dire in comparison, right?
I'm so intrigued with this individual. I need to know more. Hmmmm....

Shot of the Day 12.219: Casts & Carriages
Out with the cast & crew after rehearsals for dinner and some bonding before the madness begins. Now, back to the office to watch some....WHITNEY? Can't we go run a few miles instead? Oof.
What's going on here you ask? Well...sometimes it's best...not to explain things.

Shot of the Day 12.218: Sidecar Saturday
FINALLY made it to see DARK KNIGHT RISES in IMAX, only had to wait 2 weeks, sheesh! Liked, didn't love, but let's discuss.
Coming out into the parking garage and found this delightfully retro view; Did Indiana Jones take his old man to the movies too after dodging the Nazi's in Hamburg? That cross sign WAS confusing. What a badass way to stroll the town in an old-fashioned cycle with a sidecar.
This guy wins today.

Shot of the Day 12.217: Skyward Perspective
Walking back from a good meeting in Hollywood, looked up at a wall connected to Geisha House, some high-fallootin' joint on H'Wood Blvd. Sometimes a shot just asks to be taken. Here might have been one of those times, I can't be the best judge, I just push the button.

Shot of the Day 12.216: "Who Ya Gonna Call..?"
Shot with iPhone & Camera+, click to enlarge.
Found the iconic Ecto-1 sitting in a rental lot on Ocean Park. Remy wanted to know how much, so we asked the cigar chomping cliche of a shop owner:
Remy: "Oh we got that" Fishes in pocket. HA! Already the BS artist, I love it.

Shot of the Day 12.215: SOOO '99
Shot with iPhone & Camera+, click to enlarge.
Cleaning out our spare room and found this relic from another age it feels. DV was my life for years, and now it feels like ages since I loaded one of these tiny tapes into a rig and pressed record. I still have STACKS of these stored away, shoots from live shows, short films, music videos, interviews, around-the-house stuff, etc. I can't get rid of those, for one reason or another, but a new, unused tape in an age of solid state hard drives and P2 cards?
I chucked it. See ya, tapeheads.
